Play, but do not touch - theremin

Is there any instrument that you can play without even touching it? During the classes, participants will learn what the theremin is. While watching the presentation, they will learn about its history and also check what the instrument and the radio have in common. You will also be given a chance to play a simple melody on your own.

An encrypted letter to my mother

Well-chosen coding methods allow us to hide the content of messages from the curious ones. We associate coding with spy methods and sending messages to co-workers. During classes, however, we will learn, how to encrypt the message to one of the most important people in your life - your Mom, on the occasion of Mother’s Day.

In the Garden of the Senses: The Brain

The human brain is the real command center for the entire nervous system. A lot depends on its work. We will conduct experiments, which will let us answer the question, what we use the brain for. We will also learn how to take care of this important organ so that it functions efficiently.

Astronomy: A comet

According to contemporary views, the nucleus of a comet includes ice, solidified gases and particles of silicates and metals (H2O, NH3, CH4, CO2, HCN, C2N2, Si, Ni, Mg, K, Fe). During the classes we will make a model of the central part of the comet, i.e. nucleus. To make the model, we will use "terrestrial" equivalents that contain the listed components.

How to identify a tree and determine its height?

Can you identify a tree by its leaf and measure its height using its shadow? We invite you to classes during which we will learn to analyse the shape of the leaf, the edge of the lamina and veins, we will also try to identify selected trees. We will also learn how to use the shadow cast by a tree to calculate its height.

Smell in the leading role: biologist approach

In humans, the scents are picked up by special olfactory cells that are located in the upper part of the nasal cavity. These special receptors are used to identify chemical compounds that float in the air. When smell get into the nose, along with the inhaled air, the olfactory cells are stimulated to send nerve impulses to the brain, where the hundreds of scents are distinguished. During the classes we will receive lavender oil and turn it into a cosmetic.

Code breaker

What is cryptography? What methods are used to "hide" the meaning of different messages? What is the name of the message that was encrypted? During Sunday's family workshops, participants will turn into secret agents. They will learn various methods of encryption and breaking codes, they will make a  scytale, and everything will be finalised by an attempt to open a mysterious box with a surprise.

We invite families with children from 7 years. Please book in advance.

Price: 30 PLN per child. The price includes participation in classes and admission to the Science Garden for a child under the care of an adult
